Something I've never been lucky enough to find....before today!

So I'm not one of those lucky people who find great vintage floral hats at a great price......I'm good with that, it's just a fact. Today after dropping dd off at her golf class I had a bit of time to thrift. And found this cute little number, sorry you're seeing her after I've completely surgically removed her gorgeous blooms. I wouldn't feel good doing this with just any ole hat, but this one...it was o.k. She's seen better days and was more good to me cut up than in her original state. Nuff said....now I have lots of beautiful velvet blooms to create with, and also some velvet green leaves.
I'm happy.......:)

A ~somewhat~ new and admittedly scary obsession....

So, many of you don't know that Halloween is my very favorite holiday to create for...hence my new doll...isn't he/she scary? I took one look and conjured up all kinds of scary Halloween type scenarios with this freaky looking doll (sorry Mel, I know you're very scared for me!) But just wait and see, you'll think she's cool when I'm done with her!The yellow vintage tutu, what can I say? Just super cute and another fantastic price, the sequins are incredible! The hat box was in the free pile at a garage sale, the lid needs some work, but ok, I have glue. I love to store goodies in these see-through hatboxes  and this one has purple lilacs all over it!
Lastly, one of my new kid leather doll bodies, can't seem to get enough of these either. Wonder what this doll used to look like? Hmmmm, I'll never know but I do love them, the old sawdust that is their stuffing is so cool, and the little old buttons that connect them at the hips....love it all!
I do hope you all get a chance to find some bargains this weekend!

Creating for July 4th.............

So I was at a store the other day (you know the one that has tons of bagged goods that you get to sift through). Love that! And I came across these bags of perfectly weathered old children's building blocks.
They were so wonderfully aged.....brought them home and made the little Miss Patriotic below....just not sure if I want to sell her or put her up on my mantle for the 4th of July :).
I do hope you're all having a great Summer so far....mine has been crazy busy and it's only day 2! What's that about? Thought Summer was supposed to be relaxing....no matter, I love it all!
Thanks for checking in, I'm still perusing blogs on the Where Blogger's Create party, that will go on for some time I think...what amazing spaces some of you ladies have!

Here's is my giveaway spool doll!

I feel so blessed to have my own studio. I try to incorporate vintage storage whenever I can...it makes me happy to look around and remember where I found each item, or was given it as a gift. I love making collage art and mostly use vintage paper in most of my creations, although I am starting to branch out and use other mediums like fabric and old wood as well. My studio is usually somewhat (o.k., really messy!) but so what? Isn't that what it's for?
Thank you so much for visiting me and have fun visiting everyone else who is participating. I'd love to hear from you so please don't hesitate to comment.....:) And I'll draw a winner on July 20th!!!! But most of all thanks to Karen for hosting this gala again! Just click here www.mydesertcottage.blogspot.com for more fun!!!!
