~Eye candy alert~

O.K., so I'm a hypocrite!

A few posts back I was lamenting the high cost of magazines nowadays...and look what I found yesterday at B&N!!!!

Now I'm not usually one to buy magazines that are published "across the pond"...not sure why, I just don't. But in this case I made an exception because this reads more like a wonderful beautiful book than a magazine.
There aren't any ads to speak of and there are 290 pages! And it's also a very cool smaller size, 8x9 3/4".

So, even though it cost $14.99 (yikes) I find that it's worth it and I can't wait to dig into it....I hope you can find it at your local store too. This may tide me over until the new Romantic Prairie Style mag comes out.

A new blogging friend....

I was recently engaging in one of my most favorite activities...blog hopping and discovered this wonderful blog
www.bellebrocante.typepad.com
I became engrossed and spent a loooong time reading over her past blog entries and became fascinated and actually felt like I had met a kindred spirit. Has that ever happened to you?
On one of her more recent posts she was having a giveaway.
But it wasn't your typical giveaway, it was more of a contest, so I was intrigued. She started a story, and in order to have a chance to win you needed to finish the story with whatever ending your clever mind could come up with. And, unbelievably, I won!!!
Now creative writing is not really my forte, but this story spoke to me, so without giving it too much thought (which we all know can really make things worse) I jotted down the first thing that came to my mind....and look at the bountiful goodness that came my way! To say I'm thrilled would be an understatement....

3 separate french documents with the most amazing handwriting I've seen, neat and precise, all in fountain ink of course. In the photo above you can see the remnants of a red wax seal.

Beautiful.....

Also included were 3 french post cards, all in color with backs as enchanting as the fronts...

And check out the authentic nitroglycerine vial with pills still in it...and the cute little box it came in....

And last but certainly not least, this brass laundry tag. Did I say that Alwen, who is the author of this lovely blog, loves all things french? Yes, I'm sure you've figured it out by now! She lives up in Victoria B.C., and I do hope we get to meet one of these days.
She also sells wonderful items from her blog, so pop on over there and give it a peek, you won't be disappointed!
And Alwen, from the bottom of my smitten heart, thank you!

My next big project......

Is it possible to fall in love with an inanimate object? I say yes if said object is a book...but not just any book.

Today was our library's big sale.....

My dd wanted to go with me to help....I welcomed it.

This book is too amazing for words, even though it's falling apart.
The black and white plates inside are beyond amazing...I thought of selling but then thought that first I will scan each and every amazing illustration in this book....and there are tons of them.

When that chore is finished I will sell off the originals from this amazing book, called Beeton's Dictionary of Natural History.
It's so amazing.

My hope is to make amazing tags from these scans to sell in my etsy shop.

One more amazing than the other. And I wouldn't do this if the book was in wonderful condition, but because it's not....it will be a great way of preserving these amazing plates.

My dd and I went back after our first round at this amazing sale...some of the books are listed already in my etsy shop, others will follow. I was in book heaven today!

Such a happy shopping day....again

This was, far and away, my best find of the day for my dd. I found it in the very first store I went to, and because I was unsure if it was truly a power ranger I had to google the word Bandai to make sure that was the company who makes power rangers. And I scored! He's probably not complete but that's o.k. considering the cost of these crazy toys! Anyone else have a little girl who loves boys toys? She won't play with a doll, that much I know!
Once again the shabby shopping mojo was with me.
~cute baby shoes, darling embroidered linen, victorian box~

It said "as is" on this box, "as if" that was a problem..;)
Yummy shabby inside, just the way I like them.

Aren't they cute together?

Over -the-top sweet linen, love the border and that basket is on both ends....perfection.

A sassy-in-yellow clip hanger.

Another one that's a little more plain Jane, but I love the older clips on these.

Don't need to explain the wonderful-ness of these beauties.

I die for these....4 of them.

A darling illustrated dictionary for children.

Awesome business ledger.

A peek inside.

Antique dictionary with paper thin pages (like tissue paper)
illustrated, I might add.

These pressed beauties were a happy surprise.

Amazing old oak file drawer with fab hardware.

I added my metal top file cards that I've had for some time. I think they like each other.

Beautiful roll of wallpaper.
